Don Herfort began designing golf courses in 1963 with the goal of providing an environmentally responsible and cost conscious approach to golf course architecture. Thirty-two years later, in 1995, Don joined with Kevin Norby, a golf course architect, land planner and registered landscape architect. The firm was incorporated in 1999 and today consists of three full-time designers and draftsmen.  Our association represents over 56 years of combined experience and over 165 golf course projects.  Don Herfort retired in 2004 but continues to consult with Herfort Norby on a limited basis.

The majority of our projects have been in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin with other projects in North Dakota, South Dakota and Canada. Among our most recent and most notable projects are the Rathbun Golf Links at Honey Creek State Park in Rathbun Lake, Iowa, Pleasant View Golf Course for the City of Middleton, Wisconsin, Refuge Golf Club in Oak Grove, Minnesota and Greystone Golf Club which was designed with PGA tour professional Tom Lehman in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. Our services cover all aspects of golf course development from site selection and feasibility studies to detailed design, bid preparation, contractor selection and construction observation.

We employ computer technicians, draftsmen and administrative assistants, however, all design and construction administration is handled personally by Kevin Norby. We believe this hands-on approach ensures that proper consideration is given to all aspects of the golf course design and construction process.
