General Information
Meadowbrook Golf Course was designed by James Foulis, Jr. who is also credited with having shared in the construction of Olympia Fields and later started his own firm in the Chicago area. Meadowbrook opened for play in 1926 and is currently owned by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and operated as a public golf course. Herfort Norby was hired in 2003 to prepare a long-range master plan which included the incorporation of a driving range and practice facility.
Project Profile
After assessing the course, Herfort Norby prepared three design alternatives. Given the long history of the course, we felt it important that the original “classic” parkland style of the course be preserved. However, in order provide a convenient location for the practice facility and to address existing safety issues created by recent improvements to golf ball technology, it was recommended that three holes be relocated and redesigned. The new course improvements will be constructed in a manner which will be consistent with the existing style and character represented by Mr. Foulis’ work including flat-bottom, grass faced bunkers and gently-contoured round greens.
