Practice Center

Practic Center including driving range & practice green
Project Cost: $117,621
Project Completion: June 27, 2003

General Information

The Learning Center at Columbia Golf Course is owned and operated by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. In 2002 the MPRB was the recipient of a grant from the First Tee program that would allow them to expand their facility and programming to encourage participation by children. The MPRB goals included the lengthening of the existing driving range, the expansion of the existing turf tee to facilitate improved turf conditions, the construction of a new artificial putting green, and the construction of a new and separate mats-only practice tee. This separate tee will be used exclusively for conducting instructional programs for children. With matching funds obtained from the First Tee, the Park Board was able to construct the project on time and on budget.

Project Profile

Herfort Norby’s responsibilities designed and prepared the renovation plan, detailed construction documents and project manual. We also coordinated the public bidding process and managed all aspects of the construction process. Construction began in the fall of 2002 and was completed in June of 2003.
